"Toadcatcher" is the second segment of the fourth episode of the second season of Amphibia, and the forty-seventh episode overall.[3]
It premiered on August 1, 2020, alongside "Quarreler's Pass".
Synopsis
Sasha and Grime must reconcile their differences to escape Newtopia’s most skilled warrior, General Yunan.[4]
Plot
In an unspecified area, Sasha, after having lost against Anne at Toad Tower, is rigorously training and pushing herself for revenge against the Plantars using dummies of them. She asks Grime of her progress but finds him in the abandoned windmill, depressed due to going into hiding for being branded a traitor by Newtopia. Grime is in a lethargic and inattentive phase, and prefers to binge-watch "Suspicion Island" on Sasha's phone, even though Sasha urges him to help her rebuild their forces and train. While criticizing Grime, they are suddenly ambushed by bounty hunters to which Sasha furiously fights while Grime remains seated and claims she could handle them. Sasha then reveals the assailants to be Percy and Braddock, the only toads who remained loyal to Grime whereas the rest of the army departed. A disgruntled and disappointed Sasha sends Percy and Braddock into a nearby town to get some food supplies.
Soon, a newt enters the same town and arrives at a shop, claiming herself to be General Yunan and showing everyone a poster of Grime's wanted sign. She overhears Percy and Braddock talking about Grime and asks them for information of his whereabouts, to which they deny any knowledge of while sweating profusely. Yunan claims that she would search elsewhere and leaves the shop, but secretly makes her way to the roof, where she eavesdrops onto the two toads and receives the location. Yunan arrives demanding for Grime and Sasha takes him further into the woods, Yunan hot on their trail. They soon reach the edge of a cliff where by now, Grime surmises that Sasha's training is not just because they lost at the tower, but because she lost a friend who stood up to her. Sasha admits she is training to avoid losing another friend: Grime himself. Yunan soon catches up and Grime tells Sasha to run, but Sasha chooses to duel her to protect Grime. Yunan soon overpowers Sasha, but Sasha tricks Yunan to boast again as Grime sneaks up from behind, distracting her long enough for Grime to push her over the cliff and into the waterfall.
The victory reinvigorates Grime's fighting spirit and decides he now wants to rule the world instead. He and Sasha vow to take over the capital after Grime finishes Suspicion Island. With new confidence, Sasha realizes that she has a new destiny now and promises that she and Anne are not through with their quarrel.

Trivia
- Viewership: This episode was watched by 0.54 million viewers on its premiere.[2]
- Aside from the title card and the scene at the diner, this episode was later uploaded to YouTube on February 14, 2021 as part of a video entitled "Saga of Sasha."[5]
- This is the second episode in the whole series where Sprig, Polly, and Hop Pop don't appear. The first was "Prison Break". Although, they're represented by the training dummies of them.
- Anne is also only pictured, and is heard through a reused voice line from "Reunion".
- The training dummy of Anne resembles that of Ivy Sundew in "Anne of the Year".
- This is the last episode to:
- Depict Marcy before her official debut.
- Feature Sasha in her brown armor and Percy & Braddock in their original armor.
- This is the only episode in which General Yunan recites her monologue in full, though it is later teased in "True Colors", "Olivia & Yunan" and "The Hardest Thing".
- Grime says, "forget serving the kingdom at all," implicitly referencing King Andrias.
Revelations and significant events
- Sasha's last name is revealed to be Waybright.
- Ever since "Reunion", Captain Grime has lost his entire Toad Army (with the exception of Braddock and Percy).
- Sasha is still upset over losing Anne, but will not hesitate to attack Anne if both meet each other again.
- This would eventually happen in "True Colors".
- According to General Yunan, Captain Grime is known to be the "fiercest fighter" at the Newtopia colosseum.
Continuity
- The "BFFs" photo of Anne, Sasha and Marcy from the Season 1 opening, "Best Fronds", "Prison Break" and "Handy Anne" reappears.
- Suspicion Island reappears on Sasha's phone in this episode for its second appearance after "Taking Charge".
- Grime suggests an insurrection against Newtopia, an idea that would later be mentioned in "Barrel's Warhammer", "The Third Temple" and "The Dinner" and would nearly follow through in "True Colors".
Allusions
- Avengers: Endgame: The episode shows Grime having become a bearded and overweight recluse obsessed with watching TV after the events of "Reunion", similar to how Thor became an overweight and bearded recluse in the film after failing to stop Thanos.
- Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: General Yunan's first and second poses reference ones made in the anime, with the first being similar to Josuke Higashikata's and the second one alike to Jonathan Joestar's or Caeser Zeppeli's.
- The Scream: When Randy in Suspicion Island screams after being accused of being suspicious, he references Edvard Munch's iconic painting.
- Pokémon: One of the promotional posters is similar to the popular card game and anime series, with Yunan dressed similarly like Ash Ketchum, the protagonist of the series which the latter wore during the first anime series of it while the latter changed outfits from the second series and onwards.
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: General Yunan's claws are similar to Shredder's tekkō-kagi.
Errors
- In Grime's initial appearance, his bug snacks are lying on his belly. Moments later, the snacks are in a bag.
- When Sasha shows Grime his wanted poster with her right hand holding it, her brown glove disappears and is replaced by her right fingers. Then the glove reappears when Percy and Braddock 'attack' when they act as bounty hunters.
