"Thai Feud" is the first segment of the third episode of the third season of Amphibia, and the seventy-ninth episode overall.
It premiered on October 16, 2021, alongside "Adventures in Catsitting".[1]
Synopsis
Sprig tries to get rid of a food truck that's threatening the family business.[1]
Plot
The episode begins with Sprig hopping around the Boonchuys' house, treating it like he owns the place while Hop Pop and Polly still recognize that they are guests in their new home and treat it with respect. Hop Pop and Polly remind Sprig that they aren't part of Anne's family, and he needs to show better behavior and respect their boundaries. Now, Sprig wants to help out around the house with chores and sees the opportunity to pitch in when the family heads to work at the Thai Go restaurant, only to be sent to a corner and sip Thai tea.
Ned visits the restaurant.
While there, Anne introduces Sprig to Ned, the family's most loyal customer of their restaurant. As it turns out, Ned has started a new food truck and wants to partner with Mrs. Boonchuy and bring her great recipes to all of Los Angeles with his new truck that he keeps parked outside, "Thai on the Go".
However, Mrs. Boonchuy tells him no, and that the recipes are part of the family and he isn't part of it. She then points out to Anne that the title and placement of his truck right outside actually hurts the business since people and potential customers are confused.
Sprig sees this as an opportunity to help the business, and tries to concoct a scheme to get Ned to move his truck, starting by ordering food then ripping his disguise off and saying that Ned's food turned him pink. Of course, LA residents and acting-wannabes think this is a good thing, and rush the truck to order what Sprig ate. Sprig, flabbergasted, starts calling them morons, angering them. Anne and her mom hear the commotion and they end up dragging Sprig back to the restaurant.

Mrs. Boonchuy then tells her daughter off about Sprig's behavior, puzzling him, with Anne reminding him that her mom wasn't about to yell at a guest. As a result, Anne warns Sprig to stay out of it, but Sprig still wants to be family, so later, he writes a fake note to Ned saying Mrs. Boonchuy wants to talk business and gets him to leave the truck where Sprig attempts to sabotage the vehicle. Anne then catches him as she takes out the trash mid-act and the two begin fighting in the middle of the truck, accidentally knocking it into gear and taking off through the streets of Los Angeles.
Ned goes to talk to Mrs. Boonchuy per the note when she realizes that the tiny frog wrote it. After realizing Sprig wrote the note, she and Ned see the food truck runaway with Anne and Sprig in it. Anne attempts to stop the truck but finds that the brakes aren't working as Ned had forgotten to get them repaired, explaining why he couldn't move his truck and forcing the kids to rely on Sprig using his tounge to change directions. By the time Anne and Sprig get the truck to stop via a conveniently placed skate park, Ned and Mrs. Boonchuy arrive on scene, where Sprig takes full responsibility because he wanted to help and be part of the family. Mrs. Boonchuy apologizes and says that she shouldn't have made him feel like an outsider.
This causes Ned to start crying saying the same thing and echoing the sentiment that he too feels like an outsider and Mrs. Boonchuy offers him a job running deliveries in lieu of getting the family recipes.

Sprig thinks that the situation has been resolved. Unfortunately, Mrs. Boonchuy starts yelling at him for putting himself and Anne in danger (among other things) and it soon becomes clear to Sprig that he is now part of the family, and he begins to burst into tears and hugs Mrs. Boonchuy (to her confusion) as the episode ends.

- Marcy's Journal: A Guide to Amphibia reveals that after getting home, Anne told her mother that Sprig and Polly's parents got eaten by giant herons, which caused Mrs. Boonchuy to feel sorry for Sprig. The next day, Mrs. Boonchuy served Sprig pancakes with cockroaches on them.
Revelations and significant events
- There are more people who assumed Anne was dead for the time she was gone from Earth.
Continuity
- Anne and the Plantars continue to search for a way to return to Amphibia.
- This is the second time someone thought Anne was dead as Ned said. Gabby was the first to mention this in "Hop 'Til You Drop".
- The male customer that is shown admiring a disguised Sprig's pink chest from Ned's food is the same person as the art observer from "Hop 'Til You Drop".
- The 99 Ranchers store from "The New Normal" makes an appearance as a package box in the kitchen scene.
- Anne says "Holy crab apples!" while driving Ned's truck. This exclamation was previously said by Hop Pop in "Snow Day".
- This is the second time Anne and Sprig get into a fight, the first being "Flood, Sweat & Tears". However, they still remain friends.
Allusions
- Pokémon - The shirt that Sprig is wearing at the beginning of the episode has an image of a cat-like creature resembling Pikachu.
- Super Mario Kart - Anne states that she has played 900 hours (which is 37.5 days) of Super Wahoo Kart, a reference to Super Mario Kart. The interjection "Wahoo" is also one of Mario's catch phrases. At one point, Anne and Sprig crash into a turtle on the road, much like hitting a green shell in this game.
- Venmo - A sticker on the food truck says it accepts "Wenmo", a lawyer-friendly version of the mobile payment app.
- Gravity Falls - Ned is wearing a Romance Academy 7 shirt, the game from the episode "Soos and the Real Girl".
- The scene where Anne and Sprig destroy the television is an allusion to a scene in "The Legend of the Gobblewonker" another episode of Gravity Falls.
- Stargate - One of the DVDs Polly suggests is "Starzgate", a parody of the 1994 film in the media franchise.
- Quantum Leap - One of the DVDs Polly suggests is "Quantum Hop", a parody of this television series.
- Guy Fieri - A bobble head inside the food truck resembles the real-life food celebrity.
- Sriracha sauce - While Anne's mom talks to Ned as he tries to get the family recipes, there's a red bottle labeled with a rooster in the background which resembles this popular product.
- Thai Kitchen - The cans of coconut milk that Sprig attached to the bottom of his feet have a picture of two coconuts.
Errors
- When the close up of Mrs. Boonuchy appears after Sprig starts to lick the frying pan, she is shown wearing her red head band, but in the next scene, she's not.
- When the close up of Anne and Sprig appears after Ned's food truck crashes into a pile of garbage, Anne's voice line is a placeholder.
- When Mrs. Boonchuy and Ned open the back of the food truck after Anne and Sprig crash, Sprig is wearing his normal clothes, but after he immediately jumps out of the truck he's wearing his Earth disguise. Though it could imply he did a quick wardrobe change.
