Stumpy Stumpson[1] is a supporting character in Amphibia. He resides in Wartwood Swamp and is the cook and owner of the restaurant Stumpy's Diner, which is named after himself.
Personality[]
Stumpy initially was a gruff cook, having lost his passion for the upkeep and maintenance of his restaurant. However, after Anne helped him re-invent it, he felt hope and had a more positive outlook for the future of his restaurant.
Appearance[]
He is a sizable green frog with yellow eyes and several scars on his body. He wears a white shirt, stained with grease and other stains. He possesses an interchangeable hand, usually with a spatula in it, but can be swapped for a battle hammer. One of his legs is missing and has been replaced with a piece of wood. He is also usually seen with a crab's leg in his mouth and a greasy chef's hat.
Background[]
Stumpy's business came under threat by Albus Duckweed, who chastised him over his shabby diner and lousy cooking. Anne stepped in to defend Stumpy and made a bet with Duckweed; if they could revitalize the restaurant in two days and impress Duckweed, he would write a good review on the message board. Stumpy, seeing it to be hopeless, had initially resigned to giving up and closing his business, despite Anne's support. However, Anne's optimism and persistent attitude won him over and the two managed to transform the diner into a Thai-Amphibian fusion cuisine restaurant based on Anne's parents' Thai Go restaurant back home.
In "Civil Wart", he is among the frogs disappointed to hear that an acting troupe canceled their performance until Anne calms the audience down by suggesting to watch a movie instead. Stumpy watches the movie Love Choice, before joining Sprig's side along those who chose Alastair over Hunter. Stumpy and Mrs. Croaker then escort Anne to speak to Sprig to convince him to end his fight with Polly, but he refuses.
After Anne and Hop Pop steal both teams' flags, Stumpy joins the battle against the Hunter tribe. When Polly is the last member of the opposing team still standing, Stumpy and the rest of his team throw produce at her rather than letting her surrender. Their attacks are stopped by Sprig, who jumps in to protect his sister, leaving Stumpy and the others to mourn his "death" before he reveals it is just an act, allowing Stumpy and the others to end the fight for good. Sometime later, Stumpy goes to watch another movie where he and the entire audience urge Anne to start it when she tries to explain what it's about.
In "Children of the Spore", he is among those being mind controlled by Apothecary Gary's spores and attacks the Plantar Farm, but is later freed when Bessie eats Gary. Once Stumpy is freed from Gary's control, he returns home, having no memory of the time when he was under Gary's influence.
In "Anne of the Year", Stumpy helps Anne prepare for her Frog of the Year party by cooking stew for the party guests. When Mayor Toadstool makes a rude comment on Anne being the "worst Frog of the Year ever", Anne, under a high level of anxiety, orders Stumpy to throw out the stew and cook something fancier. When Anne suggests a sashimi, Stumpy is confused to what it is until Anne explains it is fresh fish.
By the time of the party starts, Stumpy serves guests some sashimi, which is actually a large mudskipper. However, the mudskipper reveals itself to be alive and starts chasing guests, which eventually causes a fire to break out. After Anne puts out the fire, Stumpy helps salvage the remains of the party to continue it. He goes back to serving food to customers and gives the now-tamed mudskipper some affection by rubbing its belly.
In "Commander Anne", Stumpy is seen among those when Sasha announces to the resistance that Anne and the Plantars to join them and help take down King Andrias and his forces.
