The Plantar ritual, also known as the Plantar family hunting dance, is a traditional dance developed by Leif and used by the Plantar family for hunting. It is used to distract the prey and lure them in.
Overview[]
The ritual first involves the performer sliding their left foot outwards against the ground before bending down on all fours and shaking their rump. Standing back up, they shuffle while shaking their fists right to left before slapping their bended knees a few times. Afterwards, they puff out and slap their cheeks to create a hollow drumming sound. This is followed by flopping down on the ground like a fish, which precedes smacking face-first into the ground repeatedly.
Background[]
The Plantar ritual is first explored in "Anne Hunter". Sprig uses it to capture a group of grubbles since the family is out of food and needs to hunt for some. At the end of the episode, Anne is forced to use it too to save Sprig, Polly, and Hop Pop from a scorpileo.
In "The Core & The King", Leif is shown to have created the dance, supporting the implication that she's a Plantar.
The ritual is performed once more by Sprig, Polly, and Hop Pop together in "All In" to tame the herons that originally killed Sprig and Polly's parents after defeating them in combat and freeing them from King Andrias' mind-controlling collars.
