Leopold Loggle is a supporting character in Amphibia. He is an axolotl shown to have a fascination for carving wood. His previous occupation was a metal-smith. He resigned this job, due to an injury with an anvil to his larynx (voice box).
Appearance[]
Loggle is a light blue axolotl with dark blue gills. He has two small white tufts of hair on the side of his head and a large white mustache. He has a light green tongue and his eyes are small and appear closed most of the time. When open, they appear white with blue pupils. He wears a pair of goggles that wrap around his head. The left lens is clear while the right lens is green with three small settings on it, similar to a microscope. He wears a beige shirt, a brown work apron, and grey boots. To top it off, he wears a red bandana around his neck.
As of "Commander Anne", Loggle is incredibly buff, and muscular, as he started working out after King Andrias showed his true intensions. However, he reverted back to his previous self by the end of "The Hardest Thing" because of a cheat day.
Personality[]
Leopold is a normally cheerful, elder amphibian. He loves wood more than any known resident of Amphibia. He is a dedicated individual who shows a passion for what he does. He does have a strong sense of discipline and like most workers, prefers to have validation. He was seriously upset when most of his shop was destroyed in the episode "Cane Crazy", further implying his love for wood and his beloved shop.
Background[]
Leopold is a wood carver in Wartwood who is known to carve wood into anything.
In "Anne or Beast?", Loggle is seen amongst the crowd hearing Wally Ribbiton describe his encounter with a monster and cheers when Mayor Toadstool proposes that they catch the creature. After discovering the monster to be a human girl named Anne Boonchuy, Loggle is amongst the mob leaving after the Plantar family volunteer to take care of Anne.
In "Cane Crazy", after Anne accidentally breaks Hop Pop's Cane, Anne, Sprig, and Polly go to him to see if he can fix it. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how repair the cane. However, he tells the kids it comes from a Doom Tree. Anne takes a picture of the map that he shows them.
When Anne, Sprig, and Polly go to the Doom Tree, it is revealed to be a living creature and chases them all the way to his shop. Leopold watches as the Doom Tree and the Plantar kids damage his workshop. When they throw termites at it, the insects strip the Doom Tree of its wooden exoskeleton and it leaves.
Even though they got rid of the Doom Tree, Leopold tells them they have to pay him for the damages to his workshop. Sprig decides to give Leopold Anne's click smiley face pen, which Leopold finds fascinating, and he accepts it as payment.
In "Family Shrub", Loggle meets Hop Pop at the Grub & Go market in the glue section of the store. When Hop Pop explains he's shopping for glue to work on a family shrub, Loggle gives him a glue called "Wart Slug Glue," saying it is the strongest glue there is, but this makes Hop Pop conflicted in which type of glue to buy. Later, when Hop Pop decides to buy all kinds of glue, Loggle accidentally scares, causing the glue Hop Pop was carrying to splatter all over him. Loggle watches Hop Pop struggle to get the glue off of him and grows horrified when Hop Pop gets completely covered in glue. When Hop Pop returns home, he decides to venture down to some secret rooms Anne, Sprig, and Polly had discovered in his home. Hop Pop asks Loggle, who is revealed to be glued to Hop Pop's back, if he is up for another adventure. Loggles cries "Absolutely...not" as Hop Pop runs down to explore the secret rooms in his house.
In "Toad Tax", Loggle is robbed by Bog, Fens, and Mire as he was one of the individuals on the Mayor's list who did not pay their taxes to Toad Tower. After Bog steals his statue, Anne returns one of Loggle's wood carvings to him, making Loggle happy as he cries tears of joy.
Later, at the Plantar Farm, Loggle witnesses Anne standing up to the toads and calling them out bullying the frogs. Amazed by Anne's bravery and selflessness, Loggle is amongst the crowd of citizens who come to defend Anne after she is severely injured by the toads. After discovering Mayor Toadstool is exposed for hoarding the town's taxes, everyone gets their stolen belongings back and Loggle cheers for Anne, naming her the official protector of Wartwood while coming to respect her.
In "Civil Wart", Leopold was seen watching Love Choice along with everyone in Wartwood, then he later joins Polly's group of those who chose Hunter.
In "Children of the Spore", after Anne, Sprig, and Polly broke Hop Pop's ship model replica of The Green Lady, Hop Pop came to him and asked for stuff to repair it, he asks him if it was a replica and Hop Pop told him it was, then gave him the tools repaired. Leopold was later among those under Apothecary Gary's control but was later freed when Bessie ate Apothecary Gary.
In "Anne of the Year", Loggle helps build a statue for Anne's Frog of the Year party. After Mayor Toadstool makes a rude remark about her, Anne orders Loggle to redo the statue he had been working on so it could look better. Later, when a fire occurs during the party, Loggle comments on the party looks "lit" now. After Anne puts out the fire, Loggle continues attending her party where he waits to be served some food from Stumpy.
In "Handy Anne", Anne went over to his shop for some stuff she needed to protect the Plantar Farm while she and the Plantars go on a journey to Newtopia in order to find someone who can help Anne get home. He then gives Anne a potion he made that allows crops to defend themselves but warns Anne that it could be dangerous. Anne takes it anyway but ignore the warning she pour it on the corps at the Plantar Farm.
In "Battle of the Bands", Loggle witness Anne, Sasha, and Marcy perform on stage and sang their song: "No Big Deal" and Grime playing. Loggle later joined in for a final photo for what was meant to be Girls' final night in Amphibia before King Andrias can sent the girls' home.
In "Turning Point", however, all that came crashing them when Loggle and everyone in Wartwood saw the Newtopia Castle in the sky and Frobots flying to the castle. And then learned from Sasha and Grime that King Andrias was actually an evil tyrant who wanted to use the Calamity Box to take over the Multiverse starting with Earth. Loggle also learned that Anne and the Planatrs have disappeared as well. When Andrias sent a Giant Frobot to attack Wartwood, Loggle fought along with everyone to destroy the Frobots. Later on, Loggle became incredibly muscular as a result of working out daily where he, along with the rest of the townspeople, joins the Wartwood Resistance.
In "Commander Anne", Loggle along Wally, Mrs. Croaker, and Sasha save Anne, the Plantars, and Frobo from a giant mind-controlled Centipede but later freed. He was happy to see them again and Anne was surprised to see him all buff. He accompanied Anne, the Plantars, Sasha, Wally, and Mrs. Croaker on a mission to destroy the factory that was mind-controlling all the animals of Wartwood. While on their quest to destroy, Anne was leading the mission, but her leadership skills were awful and lead to disaster. Upon arrival, Loggle got eaten by a giant Snake that was being mind-controlled along with everyone except Sasha who later save them.
After freeing the giant Snake, they destroy the factory and elected Sasha as leader again.
In "Sprivy", Loggle was among the resistance who got tired of Sprig and Ivy's relationship and stay behind among with the rest of the resistance to beat a piñata that look like King Andrias.
In "Olm Town Road" after regaining their supplies back from the Marauders, Loggle and his team were trying to figure out their next move until Anne reveal a message that she and the Plantars uncovered while they were on Earth. The message read: "Seek the mother of Olms she will guide you to your destiny." Loggle stay behind while Anne, Sasha, and the Plantars head to Quarreler's Pass to find Mother Olm.
In "The Root of Evil", Loggle accompanies Anne and the Plantars to help recruit new members into the Resistance, since his muscles are appealing to the cause. While on the journey, they come upon a village full of planet loving frogs, only to discover their leader is Apothecary Gary who survived taking control of Jeremy the beetle.
In the show's epilogue, Loggle is seen to be back to the size he was due to taking a "cheat day". He is noticeably disappointed in himself for that.

Trivia[]
- Show creator Matt Braly has stated that Loggle is one of his favorite "citizens".[1]
- He is the only non-frog amphibian resident of Wartwood to never show any animosity towards the other species in the town.
- He was previously a metalsmith, but quit when he fell and impaled his voice box. It caused a speaking issue in which when he is saying introducing adverbs, (e.g. absolutely, definitely) he pauses before saying the ending negative word, not.
- Although his eyes are usually closed, there are a few instances where Leopold's eyes are visible.
- In "Family Shrub", Leopold opened his eyes in fear once he saw Hop Pop as a grotesque glue monster as well as when he was forcefully dragged into the Plantar archive room by Hop Pop.
- Axolotls have the ability to regenerate lost limbs, thus it is possible that while he was able to regenerate his voice box, it came out wrong.
- According to Brian Mailiard, the voice of Leopold Loggle was based on Geddy Lee, lead singer of the Canadian rock band Rush.
- In "Reunion", it is shown that everyone is annoyed with Loggle's voice issues.
- In "Handy Anne", when answering to Anne's question, when he did not end with a negative word which resulted with him and Anne thinking it felt wrong.
- In the same episode, he shows that he's quite skilled in brewing potions as well as woodwork when he gives Anne a concoction that brings the plants on the farm to life.
- Real-world axolotls do not naturally produce the hormone required for metamorphosis into a land-dwelling creature, meaning the hormone, or the iodine needed to produce it, must be externally introduced. If this is true for Amphibia's axolotls, it's possible the environmental damage Amphibia suffered while Anne and the Plantars were on Earth caused Loggle's body to produce this hormone, resulting in his height increase and contributing to his muscle growth.
- If this is true, then it could also mean that he may not be the only Axolotl to have undergone such a drastic transformation.
- This might also explain how Loggle lost his muscles in the epilogue, as the factories that produced the Frobots were shut down by the time he took his cheat day.
