Today marks the ten-year anniversary of the event we've come to know as Frog-vasion. But the real question remains, was it all a hoax?
—A male TV reporter, "The Hardest Thing"

The Frog-vasion[1] to Earth is an apocalyptic event, which serves as the final arc in Amphibia. Originally planned by King Aldrich, the invasion would consist of Newtopia royalty invading Earth with the help of the Core and the use of the Calamity Box, and killing all of humanity to mine the planet for its resources. The invasion would not take place until 1,000 years later in early 2020, thanks to the now king of Newtopia and son of Aldrich, Andrias, and with the help of Aldrich himself with his mind now transferred into the Core, who was possessing Marcy Wu and assuming the identity of Darcy.

The invasion and its main goal, however, ended up not materializing thanks to Anne Boonchuy's use of her Calamity Box powers to defeat Andrias, while Sasha Waybright disconnected the Core's mind from Marcy's.[2]

1,000 years earlier, the kings of Newtopia used to use the Calamity Box to travel across the multiverse to conquer other worlds, studying their races and resources to improve Newtopia's technology and bring glory to the realm itself.[3] At some point, King Aldrich and the Core selected the then medieval world Earth for conquest. The plan was to destroy the entire living race of that world, the humans, in order to mine the world and extract its resources. However, shortly before they could do so, Leif, the gardener of Newtopia Castle and friend of Aldrich's son, Prince Andrias, had an apocalyptic vision of the future of Amphibia if the box continued to be used for conquest, which led her to steal it and take it to Mother Olm. The Core later informed Aldrich and Andrias that Olm prophecy indicated the box would return to Amphibia, so Andrias waited the next 1,000 years for the box to return in order to invade Earth and then other worlds, becoming king of Newtopia in the process.[4] Leif ironically ended up traveling to Earth and leaving the box there, leaving also a vase with a message for three warriors who were destined to save both worlds to go with Mother Olm.[5][6][7]

Box's return to Amphibia[]

In 2019, after 1,000 years since Leif left it at Earth, the box is found at Los Angeles, California by a human girl named Marcy Wu, who read about it and its abilities in a book and convinces her friends Anne Boonchuy and Sasha Waybright to take it from a store on Anne's 13th birthday, after Marcy's parents tell her that they would have to move to another state and that she would have to separate from her two friends, but without Anne and Sasha knowing about Marcy's intentions and the box's abilities. That same night Anne opens the box along with Marcy and Sasha, only to be teleported to the world of Amphibia.[5] While Anne and Sasha fall into different parts of Amphibia, Marcy fall into Newtopia with King Andrias, who upon learning of the arrival of the three girls, restarts alongside the Core with plans to conquer Earth,[8] but first he would have to find the box of calamity, which was with Anne. Andrias manage to trick Marcy, promising her to take her together with Anne and Sasha to other worlds so that they would never be separated, but in exchange she would have to find the box; Marcy accepts without knowing Andrias' true intentions.[9][3]

After Anne and the Plantars arrive at Newtopia in search of a way to return Anne to home and Anne has a reunion with Marcy,[8] Andrias is able to see the box but realizes that the three gems need to be recharged, so he convinces the two girls to recharge them.[10][9]

Progress on plans[]

When Anne and Marcy along with Sasha recharge the three gems in the corresponding temples,[11][12][13] they head in the company of the Plantars and Captain Grime to Newtopia for King Andrias to "send the girls to home", only for Andrias to reveal their true colors and Marcy's deception of Anne and Sasha. After an intense fight between Andrias and Anne, who recently discovered her Calamity Box powers, Marcy opens a portal with the box so they can all escape, but Anne and the Plantars are the only ones who manage to do so, as Marcy was stabbed by Andrias in the chest.[3]

Anne and the Plantars are teleported to Earth, where they look for different ways to return to Amphibia,[14] finding Leif's vase in the process,[6] but the box however ends up on Amphibia at the hands of Andrias.[3] Sasha and Grime escape from Andrias and hide in Wartwood Swamp to later form the Wartwood Resistance with the citizens of Wartwood against King Andrias and his army;[15][16] Marcy for her part is put by Lady Olivia and General Yunan under Andrias' orders in a rejuvenation tank to prevent her from dying,[15] only for the Core to later enter her body and acquire the identity of Darcy, in order to be able to execute the plan in a better condition.[17][4] Andrias, seeing the obstacle that Anne is because of how powerful she can be with her powers, decides to kill her, sending different prototypes of Frobots to do it, but all the attempts to kill her fail.[14][18][19][20]

War in Amphibia and preparations[]

By early 2020, Anne and the Plantars thanks to the help of Dr. Jan and Terri were able to build an interdimensional portal and return to Amphibia, finding it in ruins by Andrias' army of Frobots.[21] Later they join Sasha and Grime in the Wartwood Resistance,[16] where they get enough allies to fight and stop Andrias.[22][23][24] Anne and Sasha, thanks to the message on the jar, go to Mother Olm, who tell them about the prophecy to save both worlds that involved them and Marcy.[7][25] For their part, Andrias and Darcy make good progress with the preparations for the invasion, waiting for the perfect moment to start it.[4]

Finally, the Resistance goes to fight Andrias and his army, starting a battle outside Newtopia Castle, while Anne, Sasha, the Plantars, and Grime sneak into the castle to retrieve the box and save Marcy. However, alongside Olivia and Yunan they end up being caught by Darcy and learn what happened to Marcy. Darcy subsequently declares the defeat of the resistance as their leaders are captured, opening a portal to Earth for the Newtopia Castle and initiating the invasion.[26]

The beginning and the end[]

Hey Earth, congratulations on getting invaded

Andrias congratulating Earth for being invaded.

When arrive in Los Angeles, Andrias' army begin to attack and destroy everything in their way, while Andrias congratulates the citizens for being invaded. The captured resistance leaders manage to escape and are reunited with Mr. and Mrs. Boonchuy, who along with Anne's former enemy Mr. X have alerted the FBI to be ready for the invasion. The group then devises a plan in which Anne, her parents, the Plantars, and the FBI would take care of the Frobots and Andrias, while Sasha, Grime, Olivia, and Yunan would take care of the mastermind, Darcy. Although Anne's group manages to destroy several of the Frobots, they continue to multiply, making things even more difficult; Sasha has a fight with Darcy, in which Grime loses his right arm to save Sasha from being attacked by Darcy. In the fight, the Plantars realize that in Andrias' army are the same herons that killed Sprig and Polly's parents, which makes them and Hop Pop weaken, but seeing that the herons are about to attack Anne's parents, they overcome their fear and defeat the herons by taming them with the Plantar ritual.

Darcy is defeated.

Andrias, seeing many of his Frobots defeated, decides to challenge Anne to a fight, where if she wins he will stop the invasion. Anne accepts the challenge, starting a fight between them. After an intense fight, Anne's powers finally run out and Andrias is about to defeat her, but thanks to Mr. X's spy glasses, Sprig realizes that a letter he found in an old room of his family's farm is for Andrias, so he goes to him to read it. The letter turns out to be from Leif, who wrote it before she died 1,000 years ago, in which she asked Andrias not to close himself but to open his heart to others. Andrias breaks down over the letter and is about to let go of the invasion idea, but Darcy manipulates him to move on; Sasha takes advantage of Darcy's moment of distraction to destroy its connections, causing the Core's connection to Marcy's mind to fade. Andrias, now free of the Core's influence, relents and allows Anne to defeat him, ending the invasion and returning to Amphibia to announce Andrias and Darcy's defeat to the Resistance.[1]

Aftermath and legacy[]

Anne's Statue in Series Finale

Anne's statue made by Wartwood, in honor of her saving Amphibia.

Although Sasha disconnected the Core from Marcy, she did not destroy it, allowing it to activate the technology it installed thousands of years ago on Amphibia's moon to destroy it.[2] However, the plans are frustrated and the Core is completely destroyed by the girls, who are able to activate their Calamity Box powers with the help of Valeriana. After the girls return to Earth, Amphibia gradually recovers from Andrias' actions, while Wartwood made a statue in Anne's honor.[1]

On Earth, Mr. X and the FBI do their best to cover up the matter for the public, their official position being that it was all about a "big budget Hollywood film shoot terribly wrong."[27] Over the course of ten years, people on Earth still wonder whether the invasion was real or not, while Anne, Marcy, and Sasha go on with their lives.[1]
