"Anne's Theme" is a leitmotif that plays throughout Amphibia and is one of the main leitmotifs, mainly used for almost every credits sequence. Like the other leitmotifs, it can play when Anne is either speaking, appears, or is mentioned; like "Sprig's Theme", it can play in scenes when Anne is completely absent.

The theme was composed and produced by TJ Hill, and the credits sequence was animated by Saerom Animation for Seasons 1 and 2, and by Jenn Strickland for Season 3.

Credits sequence[]

Season 1[]

Anne and Sprig lie next to a rock fence reading books together in the late afternoon/at night a bit away from the Plantar Farm. When Sprig goes to sleep after a yawn, Anne blows out the lit candle located on her right side at the rock fence and lays back besides Sprig while gazing at Amphibia's starry night sky. This scenario is shown from a different perspective in a flashback in "True Colors".

  • The episode "Snow Day" adds a sleigh bell beat to the song, as well a snow-themed credits sequence.
  • The finale "Reunion" shows depictions of events from "Anne or Beast?" and "Toad Tax", and one depicting Anne and the Plantars looking at the night sky.

Season 2[]

Anne and the Plantars are at the moving Fwagon while it's being pulled by Bessie at night under the bright red lunar eclipse. Hop Pop slowly drives the Fwagon, Sprig sits on the glowing blue mushroom located at the Fwagon's roof while looking at the night sky through his telescope, Anne seems to be relaxed when having a nap on a log located on the roof next to Sprig, and Polly is moving around inside the Fwagon.

  • The episode "Hopping Mall" has a slower version of the theme playing, with a view on the night sky of Newtopia (the same shot as the last frame of the episode).
  • The episode "The Shut-In!" has a Halloween-like variation, with the theme played with ominous instruments, as both Anne and Sprig are shown as skeletons with shredded clothes and Anne's left bone hand has her phone, but with the screen damaged. Despite being a Season 2 episode, the Halloween-like variation of this episode used the imagery of the Season 1 version, with Sprig and Anne (as skeletons) sitting next to the rock fence.
  • The finale "True Colors" has a "somber"[1] orchestrated version of the theme, with depictions of events from "Fort in the Road", "Marcy at the Gates", and "Battle of the Bands".

Season 3[]

A completely different credits sequence is used, depicting an abstract kaleidoscope sequence of Anne and the Plantars with simplified aesthetics, strongly akin to various anime credits. The sequence starts at daytime before shifting to nighttime by the end. In one scene, other characters like Sasha, Marcy, and Grime are seen.

  • The theme was remixed to an upbeat, extremely fast-paced, techno variation with short, cut-off, repeated lyrics and depicts an abstract kaleidoscope of Anne and the Plantars with simplified aesthetics, strongly akin to various anime credits.
  • The lyrics are made of several references to earlier episodes.
    • Anne saying "Nope nope nope nope nope", a reference to her moving Sprig and Polly along in "Family Shrub".
    • Hop Pop gasps, a recurring habit in the show.
    • Anne, Sprig, and Hop Pop saying "(not the) baby!", a reference to every time they said this when Polly was in danger.
    • Anne saying "Hooba da boopa", a reference to her saying this in "Reunion" and "Handy Anne".
    • Sprig saying "Bop, bop, bee bop", a reference to when he waited for his Bug-accino order in "The Plantars Check In".
    • Anne saying "Wait what?", her catchphrase.
    • Polly laughs in the end, which might be a reference to her yelling maniacally in "Family Shrub".
  • The penultimate episode "All In" uses a wind-up music box rendition of the theme, showing Amphibia's red moon slowly moving closer at night.
  • The series finale "The Hardest Thing" uses a medley of the trio's leitmotifs: first "Marcy's Theme", then "Sasha's Theme", and finally "Anne's Theme". It shows, in order, the Anne statue in the heart of Wartwood, the current state of where the trio originally stayed (Newtopia, Toad Tower, Plantar Farm – accompanied by the respective girl's leitmotif), and ends with a retake of the trio's "BFFs" photo.
  • Starting in Season 2, the end credits do not appear in Disney Channel broadcasts, instead they show up marginalized in the bottom third of the screen during the last 30 seconds of the show, to make more room for commercial time.

Trivia[]

  • It was used for a short version of the opening sequence in "Toad Tax"/"Prison Break", "Reunion", "The First Temple", "True Colors", "The New Normal", "Escape to Amphibia", "The Root of Evil"/"The Core & The King", and "The Three Armies"/"The Beginning of the End".
  • Just like its namesake character, this is the first of the Calamity Trio's leitmotifs to debut.
  • A minor key variation of the theme is heard in "Anne or Beast?" when Sprig is looking for "the beast" (before Anne even appears on screen).
    • This is the only one of the main leitmotifs to play before its namesake appears onscreen (if Anne's silhouette at the beginning is excluded).
  • This leitmotif plays during each of the trio's reunions: Anne and Sasha's in "Anne of the Year", Anne and Marcy's in "Marcy at the Gates", and Sasha and Marcy's in "The Third Temple".
    • Furthermore, the renditions heard in "Anne of the Year" and "The Third Temple" are identical.
  • TJ Hill played a live version of the leitmotif during the Amphibia "True Colors" Pre-Show titled "Amphibia True Colors Pre Show: Anne’s Theme Live". It can be listened to here.
  • "Spider-Sprig"/"Olivia & Yunan", "Froggy Little Christmas", "The Root of Evil"/"The Core & The King", and "The Three Armies"/"The Beginning of the End" are the only episodes of the entire series to not use the "Anne's Theme" leitmotif in the credits:
    • "Spider-Sprig"/"Olivia & Yunan" uses a black background with an ominous sound playing.
    • "Froggy Little Christmas" uses an instrumental version of "Our Special Time of Year", and shows three drawings in the style of the previous season finales:
    • "The Root of Evil"/"The Core & The King" uses background sounds as the torn portrait of Prince Andrias, Leif, and Barrel burns.
    • "The Three Armies"/"The Beginning of the End" uses a War of the Warlocks theme at the beginning, then plays a piano version of the "Marcy's Theme" leitmotif in the middle of the outro directly to the end. It shows the three girls in Anne's room having a sleepover, following the flashback from the beginning of the episode as Marcy is watching the movie while Anne and Sasha are asleep.
      • According to TJ Hill, the inclusion of "Marcy's Theme" was Matt Braly's suggestion.[2]
  • The third season's alternative credits sequences are the season's only sequences to credit Haley Tju.
  • A sample of "Anne's Theme" is heard during the "Slaying Santa" score in "Froggy Little Christmas" as the Santa-Bot and prototype drone are destroyed and misfired into the sky from the Boonchuys' float tree.
